Stock 1.8 turbo gear on a stock 2.0
« on: May 07, 15, 11:50 »
Thinking of making my 2000 golf 2.0 turbo'd but wondering if the turbo setup from a 1.8 would work? Any help would be much appreciated! And what other turbo setups would work. Thanks in advance!

remove your engine, buy a large boat, and use said engine as an anchor.

Single cams, particularly VWs, don't make much power since they flow poorly. It would be cheaper to install a 1.8T engine than fit its turbo setup on your car. The turbo on the 1.8T is also far too small to make any kind of power. That turbo on your car will make it feel even more like a diesel, only without the fuel economy. 140 whp tops without porting the head and going crazy, and that's less than a stock 1.8T.

The only use your engine has in anything aftermarket is to use its bottom end for a 16V/20V 2L conversion. That's a whole other barrel of worms that you probably don't want to go down.
