Our TDI seems to be one of the affected. Here comes $1,000!

Although, the wife brings up a valid point. What is stopping someone from walking up to a TDI, writing down the VIN number and making a false claim? What sources does VW have to confirm the vehicle ownership?

Vehicle registration. Just like recalls are mailed out to current owners.

Congratulations?

I don't have any specifics on that, but surely there are safeguards in place.

What did you have to provide to VW to receive $1000?

Are you actually ok with this settlement?

I simply filled out the form with VIN number, address, and email address. Said it'll arrive within 4-6 weeks. I guess we'll wait and see.

Happy with the settlement? To be totally honest, it doesn't really matter. I wouldn't have known the problem existed without the EPA doing their investigation.
There is no point in going after VW for "wrongful claims" or whatever else the tree-huggers are trying to sue after. People are greedy.

They're offering a settlement for something that nobody would have ever found out about. You can't tell me you wouldn't take the settlement, either.

AND that goes without saying that anyone who claims the settlement right now does not give up their right to join any future class-action lawsuit.

It sounds like a bandaid solution for now.

Agree completely your last sentence, however there is some validity to the argument that this does affect the resale value of the vehicle.  We live in a jurisdiction where whatever the fix they come up with is essentially optional since AirCare is gone, however if you live somewhere where testing is required it's a real issue.  Even here the negative press will likely be dampening the enthusiasm that the average non-enthusiast buyer has for buying a TDi, hard to maintain the greater resale value if it's viewed as a bad vehicle.

There are a lot of guys in the states finding it has made a big impact on the resale of their vehicles, be it diesel or gas.  Some of the guys on the MK7 forums have been looking to sell their cars to Car Max, this seems to be a fairly common practice for the 'mericans.  They are being given numbers that don't even make sense like 12k for a car with 10,000 miles on it and the reps at car max said it's because they have been overrun with people selling their VWs back to them.  It's actually listed right on the quote that the diesel issue has had a substantial negative effect on resale values of VW.  That's only one source, but I'm sure there are others, this issue has made it's impact.

As enthusiasts we appreciate the brand and something like this wouldn't have a lot of weight in choosing the next car, but for a non enthusiast they feel like they've been cheated.  Without any loyalty to the brand if you feel you've been cheated than you'll move onto another brand fairly easily.

That being said I would say if I owned one of the cars effected I wouldn't care much about a settlement, but if someone was throwing an extra 1k at me I'd gladly take it.

I get to be one of the lucky ones that most likely has a camshaft recall on their car...fun times.
