Crash Bang Paint
« on: May 31, 15, 21:55 »
Hey guys I had some set backs last year namely the clutch and a broken elbow, healed the elbow, changed the clutch. I got the golf polished up just to go check out GCVWS last year and I got lightly sandwich'd between 2 cars, firs time driving the car in 2 years. I did what I think anyone else would do and paint the middle while the front and rear were being done anyways. I was very lucky to get a brand new oem Rallye grill and thanks to pattywagen my rad support was straightened out nicely and headlights repaired. Here are a couple photos of what's been going on.

It'll be out soon enough, only days away from being back in my garage! I've never had a nicely painted vehicle before though, I should probably just keep it under a car cover till gcvws.

I'm glad you got nice parts to fix the car!  I've wondered where this car has been over the past few years.  Since you aren't revealing the colour, can we guess? I'm going to guess gold:

The colour I chose is an Olive green from a late 70's Porsche 911 SC. Yes I need to get rid of the red plug wires... See you on the streets!

Thx guys! Some shots from today, installed some new stealthy front LED signals (hidden below headlights) , passenger door handle broke so I'm awaiting another in the mail. Still breaking in my new clutch so I don't think mission is quite in the question yet.

They are Lamin-X, I would prefer the real French lens' but surprise surprise they're hard to come by, and I'm worried as is about these. I did buy new clear and yellow Lamin-X to re-do these. I have the real french fogs, just waiting for the real headlights

I limped it home sans turbo to prevent any metal bits entering the engine, if all goes well I should be making it to Mission in a couple weeks. I bought this little beauty so she gets clean oil.

Well this is where I got in a couple hours work. I've got 3 of the 4 bolts cracked loose on the turbo, i may have to take the manifold off the head to get the last one unfortunately. Its a tight fit, the front end is off to install my new SP oil filter unit, I noticed my old filter that came out had an interesting twist to it, probably contributed to the dirty oil turbo failure. I'm definitely going to check the part number and make sure it was the right one. Oh well, next years turbo setup is ready to go for the off season.

Triple check your oil filter, I'm not sure what happened to this one. Its the same as I've been using for years. Though I'm glad to switch to the canister type oil filters.

Schimmel filter housing is on, tricky tightening all the sensors etc. after bolting it up. "Purposely" knocked off my PS elbow too, so I got a new o ring for that and 2 liters of pentosin.

I got the call at noon from a friend to come pickup my rebuilt turbo, i guess they have so much stock for this thing he managed to do some cherry picking and all that remains of the old turbo is the housings lol. Why did I bother buying a new turbo?! Lol. After a quick stop at Lordco for some shorter bolts and lock washers I went straight to work. To my surprise ADP provided a nice little baggy with new gaskets so I can return the schtuff I bought. I don't think I'll have any problems making it to Mission this friday, I should have most of everything buttoned up tmrw. Re-fill my Power-Steering fluid, 2 oil flushes and I should be back in business. I probably have time to get my new wideband in and swap the recaros out for my el cheapo lighto drag bucket.

Maybe I should get this thread moved to the builds section as I've got a lot of parts on deck :)
