So I bought the Sigma USB dock... pretty good for $60. It lets you tweak the Autofocus at variable distances.. brilliant!

Ugh... I may need to upgrade my 50mm 1.8G

Hands on: Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art ignores Canon L, Nikon glass and targets Zeiss Otus. No, really.

But the most impressive information we gleaned? When discussing their goals of image quality and sharpness for the lens, Sigma mentioned they're confident they'll surpass competitive products from Canon and Nikon and are instead gunning for Zeiss's new 55mm Otus lens. It's a serious claim. The Zeiss 55mm f/1.4 Otus lens -- with its $4000 price tag -- is squarely aimed at high-end professional shooting such as fashion, advertising and editorial work.

I'm guessing 2 years down the road all my glass will be Sigma...

My Sigma 17-50 came back from repair with no OS, and Steph's Sigmalux has a loose front element.  Not impressed.

Mine (older 18-125) came back totally unrepaired after like 6 weeks at Camtex.  Will never use them again.

Well it's almost official.. this is going to be my next lens:

http://petapixel.com/2014/04/09/sigma-50mm-keeps-pace-otus-almost-counts-rumored-cost-one-fourth-much/

"Despite the dramatic difference in price, the Sigma competes handily with the $4,000 Zeiss 55mm Otus lens… While the Zeiss does show better performance in the corners at ƒ/1.4 on a full-frame camera, the other optical performance characteristics are pretty evenly matched."

I've seen two reviews saying it'll be priced at $1800. Not worth the money at that price point IMO. If it's slightly softer at the corners at 1.4 sounds like it's on par with the canon 50L and for $300 more? I guess we will wait and see finalized pricing. Anything over $1200 it won't be worth it.

That last review said it's closer to $1000USD which is about right  also it's heads and shoulders above the Canon 50L

From their review before they compared to the $4000 Zeis Opus
"The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art is the most exciting lens we’re likely to review this year. All competing lenses from Canon and Nikon fell short when compared to the resolving power of the 50mm Art. We haven’t (yet) tested the very best from Zeiss, but we are confident Sigma will trounce it in one key area: price. [...] Put simply: it trounces any similar model available for less than $4,000. If it comes in significantly cheaper than the best of Canon and Nikon, Sigma will have made a friend of every full-frame shooter in the land."

$949 USD at B&H  http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/Items/ci/24645/N/3938850504

I can't find the link but I read somewhere that's just the pre-order price and it'll jump up after pre sales. Don't quote me on that though...

Daaaaamn High praise from DXOmark

  http://petapixel.com/2014/04/17/dxomark-sigma-50mm-f1-4-art-series-lens-comes-seriously-close-otus/

Given the price difference I don't see how anyone would buy the Otus instead

Didn't quite beat the mark they set... They'll sell like hot cakes though. I don't think they'll steal much customer base from zeiss though. People in the market for zeiss glass don't even have sigma on their radar, even if it outperforms the otus.

Image quality looks great and the price is right.. man I think they have another hit on their hands. I think you're right, people who are in the market for Zeiss will just get a Zeiss, but for guys like me who want a Zeiss but can't justify the cost, here's a great alternative at $3000 cheaper!. Keep in mind this is coming in at $400 cheaper than the Canon 50mm 1.4 and $600 cheaper than the Canon 50mm 1.4... and seeing how it's out performing those by a fair margin it's quite an accomplishment

Agreed, sick lens for the price
