CEL and Gas Cap issues
« on: Feb 14, 18, 21:42 »
Car: 2008 R32

I keep getting the "tighten gas cap" warning on my dash but I know it is tight.

It goes away after about an hour then the next day the CEL comes on and that stays on for a day and then disappears. I have taken it in the the dealership and they can't figure out what it is. Happens about 3 times a month.

Has anyone had this happen to them?

I have also put in a new gas cap.

Either a bad gas cap, or you have a small evap leak.

Could be the seal on the gas cap or any one of the solenoids/valves that are in the system.

Basic system

Seems like common places are the charcoal canister

And also the N80 valve

Good luck!

check all the clamps around check valves and other evap hoses.. kept getting P0456 in my B5.5 and tracked it down to a loose clamp that was tough to see

Thank you!  I have put in a new gas cap but kept doing it.  I will try these other issues.

Update:  Still having an issue.  Doesn't affect driving but it is annoying to have the gas cap light come on all the time.  A shop has had it for a month and still wasn't able to figure out what the issue was (fixing wiring harness and steering column as well).

The fault code that kept popping up were minor leak and large leak (0442)
