So, this is broken, and I'm wondering what my options are...

In addition to replacing the bent bolts and the cracked bracket....

A:  Replace the shortblock (yeah right)
B:  Weld / repair block in the car (again probably not practical)
C:  Build an aluminum bracket off surrounding tab holes for the mk2/3 mounts (not sure if enough space / strength)
D: Do nothing and hope that 2/3 bolts is sufficient for that mount, and locktite the bolts in.

E - Your suggestions?

First option should be sell VW and buy something that's reliable and not prone to break downs....but if that's not an option than just fix it as is and hope for the best, that's where I would start.  If it's just a daily driver it will probably be fine, if it breaks again you can look at other options, but the cheapest and easiest option of just hoping for the best with the 2 bolts would be where I would start.

If you're looking to make big power or something like that than that changes things significantly, but this could turn into a huge job very easily and it's probably not worth it in the end.

The car was rebuilt after an accident that took out the subframe (and obviously a few more things), and the guy who inspected it did a piss-poor job. Obviously so did I on the pre-purchase inspection as I bought the car impulsively when the wife's MK4 started acting up.

Could be a sign of things to come for this car.  Fix it and sell it Ian, don't get pulled down the rabbit hole.

Grab yourself a nice low km, no accident MK6 or better yet, grab the wife a 4runner and never have to worry about break downs and repairs again.

If I'm not mistaken this is an issue addressed by an aftermarket mount that relocates the mounting to a different tapped hole on the block. Worth looking into.

If you're thinking of these, they are for the upper mounts, I did contact DieselGeek to see if they have a lower option with no luck.  https://www.dieselgeek.com/Broken_2_0T_VW_Engine_Block_Fix_Bracket_p/vg-2.0t.htm
