2005 GLI tiptronic transmission question
« on: Feb 14, 18, 20:12 »
I have an 05 GLI with a 6 speed tiptronic. When I start it cold and put it in reverse it doesn't engage, minutes later when it warms up it engages. Anyone have any thoughts on what this could be?
Thank you

It could be time for a manual swap.  Automatic transmissions don't generally fix themselves

Sticky solenoids or valve body most likely. Any other shifting issues? Harsh shifts, delayed, etc? Scanned for codes? The tiptronic 09x trannies weren’t terribly reliable.

At 13 years old, it's not unreliable, it's just an old Automatic. This is what happens

Like anything that is old, it needs some maintenance.

Do a fluid change and replace the filter.
Cut the old filter open......if you find lots of silvery flakes and shiny stuff....see post 1 above.

The solenoid packs are prone to failure.  I just sold a 2003 that has a failing reverse solenoid with the same symptoms.  It's a relatively easy fix just time and space I didn't have.

09x do not have a replaceable filter - or at least not one where you don't have to pull the entire transmission out....
