Just bought an automatic 05 GLI that has a slight stutter at times when idling. RPM's will dip for less then a second and pop back up, almost like a hiccup. Also noticed a few hiccups while accelerating on the highway yesterday. The engine light flashed on for around 15 seconds then went away too. Thought this was very odd, any thoughts?

Hooking it up to VCDS would be the first step.

Get the car scanned and find out what it's reading for codes

Throwing parts at it is more fun
It's always coilpacks

R8 ones made a big difference for me in terms of idle and throttle response.

For the record you don't NEED the adapters for the R8

My R8 coils barely stay in with the adapters.    They constantly come back out I'll have to put hold downs on them.

The stock coils and R8 coils should really be the same at idle, the only time the R8's should have an advantage is at higher boost levels.  Usually its because you are replacing crappy worn out coils they feel better everywhere.

And technically the tune needs to be changed ( Coil Dwell time ) to get the most out of it, and not cause premature death to the coils.

There are also multiple manufacturers of R8 coils.  I personally like the Denso ones, but others have their preference.

Depends on the valve cover I guess? These Turkish made R8 coils in an AWP cover fit great and snug.
