Hey guys - somewhat of a feeler post. My ski season is basically done, and I think I'm going to get another M/C this spring. Can only insure so many vehicles.
This has been the closest I've come to keeping a winter mobile, and I still might (coilovers I ordered for it haven't even arrived yet). It's a great car, and getting tougher to find the blank canvas. On to the post:

1998 Mk3 GTI VR6 - Silver Arrow/Cloth
159,600 kms (I've driven it a little under 2k kms)

Highlights:

99% OEM -  DE leftover parts throughout
Purchased from OG owner in the fall
Drives and handles great
Paint (except where noted) is good - no clear issues. Body trim is clean and straight.
Installed phatnoise with all wiring and cradle as well as a CD changer if you prefer
Beetle headrests (stock included)
Factory tool kit and spare look unused
GIAC 91 octane chip and K&N drop in filter
Tires are good
Full history since new - stamped warranty book, followed by all post warranty receipts (beetle spa)
I just did oil, coolant, crackpipe, & waterpump in the fall. Also fresh taillight gaskets and sealing of the plate tub

Flaws:

small surface rust patch starting inside gas door.
small surface rust spot starting on the inside of rear wheel arch
small lower bolster tear starting drivers side
few rock chips and door dings
1 OEM keyless fob in really good shape, 2nd fob is rough but functional. 2 new eBay shells included

Price is $4000 firm for it as it sits. Just what I paid for it plus my maintenance parts etc.
No trades considered except Greg's Corrado!

Itís not a show car, but I think itís one of the best survivors Iíve seen in a long time. Everything works, everything is dry, burns no oil.

Note: chains have not been serviced...nor should they be until they make noise.

Extras available for more $(not for sale separate until the car goes)

OEM Votex rack w keys and thule ski holders + $200

OEM Mk4 wolfsburg 16Ē 2 piece RX2ís in great shape (no tires) + $600

BNIB FK streetlines + $425 (EDIT: $350 + 75 bill paid at the border)

Trouble spots:

Good looking car.  That area of rust wouldn't be very expensive to treat.

Bump for a cool car! I'd love to see someone put this car away and do a mild resto on it with the intention of keeping this car 100% stock and applying for collector plates in the future!

Not many stock ones left anymore!

Jake - can you PM me a recomendation for a shop that could take care of the rust spots? I think regardless I should just get it done.

Thanks guys - ya, this would be a candidate to keep stock (except the suspension - come on). Really needs some billys and h&r's but the streetlines are so cheap I thought I'd give them a try.

That and some GTI edition red stripe recaros. Nobody would notice except the real Mk3 OG's that they were swapped.

Just for comparison sake Dan's silver mk3, the other silver arrow that was floating around, just resold for around 3k with fresh chains, suspension, etc.  It's a tough market for the mk3 stuff nowadays.  If you have the room for it you would probably be better off keeping it and chipping away at it for next years winter car.

valid points. I loved Dan's car and wanted it before I bought this one.  For the sake of argument, I think he asked 6k for his initially (with mods I know...) I think the most recent seller sold it very cheap.

I thought somebody would be attracted to the original condition of this one, but not at the moment I guess.

(I sure got a lot of "if you ever want to sell it" PM's in teh fall when I bought it. Crickets...)

I'll leave the post up here, but I think I'm happy to hang onto it. A couple more OEM+ mods and it will be a great summer cruiser.

I'd say throw in the suspension, 16" wheels, alignment, and fix the rust (it may only be a few hundred $$$'s) and then list it for $5500!

LOL - all the more reason for me to hang on to this. GLWS Toby! If I hadn't done fat fives on my Corrado I'd have got some for this car.

If I could have held onto my silver arrow I would have but having something bigger to cart kids around in trumped it. I will always have a soft spot for silver arrow be gtis.
