Is your trunk stuck closed? You need to fold down the rear seat center arm rest and reach inwith some long pliers. From the actual latch leading up the the lock cylinder mechanism is a metal rod, grip it and pull up. Trunk will open.

To replace the lock cylinder mechanism you need to remove the license plate tub, unhook any rods connected to it, depending on if you have power locks you need to forcefully slide a rod out sideways from the back side of the lock/push button.
if that thing was any more sleeper it\'d be comatose

I have managed to get the trunk open with ease and now in the process of removing the license plate i do have power locks its a 1991. but removing the locking mechanism from the tub on the front side is what I'm having trouble with as each side is cliped into the tub.
will i have to take apart the tub in order for this to fit i really don't want to break any tabs off. thanks for the quick reply

Take the tub off. Couple of screws behind the license plate, couple above the license plate on either side of the lock and then two more screws at the very outer edges of the tub (the thin spots where it's above the tail lights).

Once all those are out just slide each half of the tub towards the outside of the car. Nothing will break, cannot be done without removing the tub.
