MK2 basic replacment struts reccomendation?
« on: Nov 28, 19, 17:28 »
Have a 1991 MK2 Golf with only 180km (yes..true) on it. Had OEM struts and I replaced all 4 struts myself with some quality used OEM replacement struts maybe 6 years ago, + top caps.

Time has come to replace all 4 struts again. We don't need to sink a ton of $$ into this car. Anyone have any reccomendations? Talked to Autohaus in Burnaby who is super legit and they recommended going with like a Monroe or something non-OEM as OEM is pricey.

No fancy upgrades or anything were ever done to our MK2. Had stock struts, replaced with an OEM strut, etc. Not lowered or raised.

Best bang for the buck, I like KYB. Made in Japan.
Excellent quality product, decent pricing, and a lifetime warranty. Can't beat that.

Fr struts - 235614
Rr shocks - 343191

No reason they should cost you more than $100/corner.

My $0.02

Thanks Parts. Confirmed those numbers on their website and LordCo carries KYB. Easy!

Any opinion on if it is worth getting new springs as well if my current ones are almost 30 years old? Don't need to lower the car at all, believe this is primary reason people do new springs....

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

@ Parts - thanks for reccomendation. Front KYB struts $80 with my LordCo discount and rear ones only $55.

Will be swapping this weekend. Just tracking down come spring compressors and a blow torch for cutting old rusty lower bolts.

would be good to look at replacing the upper strut bushings as well
