So my B5 A4 1.8TQ acted up the other day, when it was -35 here in Winnipeg (I park outside).  The transmission (auto) seemed to be stuck in 4th gear, excepting park, reverse, and neutral.  D, 4, 3, and 2 had no effect, and pulling away was really sluggish.  It revved at around 3400-3500 at 100km/h, which is why I think it was 4th.  It wouldn't upshift or downshift ever.  I had no CEL come on, either.  I drove it gently to university and parked.  About 6 hours later, after classes were done, I got in it, and lo and behold it shifted!  It was hard shifts for a minute, then seemed normal.  Still no CEL, but it is I think in limp mode, as it boosts at maybe max 7 psi, 5-6 consistently.  It should hit 15 at WOT.  Any ideas?  Or alternative, anyone out in my neck of the woods on here with a vag-com?  I don't think this matters, but last weekend (the 10th) I replaced the battery.
Anyone have similar issues?

Do you have access to a Vag-com? I would check to see if the tranny tossed any codes.

Does sound like it's in limp mode or something is frozen.

No, I don't have a vag-com.  Wish I did.  Disconnecting the battery for 16 hours did nothing in any case.  I may end up getting the local shop to check the tranny for codes.

Anyway you can pull it inside and warm it up?

Only if I were to skip class.  Its warmed up since then, it's only like -10 now.
