Since we sold our Allroad last spring we decided to get into another Audi project.

Initially, this Q5 started with a Caractere body kit and 21" wheels. But, after attending SEMA and visiting the guys at Accuair we were inspired to do another air ride project. Accuair has developed a fantastic B8 kit that works with the factory shocks and has new e-level sensors that mount specifically to the Audi suspension components. We were excited to get back home and back to work. Admittedly, this kit was initially going to go into our B8 S4 that we had at the time. Things took a little 180 and we found ourselves trading in the S4 and keeping the Q5.

Here is what the truck looked like before the New Year.

Since the Q5 is, in most respects a B8 chassis, the suspension should be fairly straight forward. The only area where we will need to really focus is in the trunk. Since the Accuair kit is designed to fit in the trunk of the A4 we will have to modify some parts of it to make it fit under the floor in the Q.

Today was spent mostly just tearing things in the trunk apart and checking clearances on the air ride components. Just talked to Derek and ordered a few more things that we will need for the build.

Yeah. They just haven't made anything really impressive until the Q5 kit (IMO)

The shop has been swamped, but we were able to get the Q5 back in and mock up some pieces. We ended up cutting the B8 trunk mount and flipping it on its back. Then we ordered two EXO mount plates and positioned them so that the compressors will sit sideways. This will give us enough clearance that everything will fit under the floor as it is intended to with the Accuair B8 kit, and the spare tire, subwoofer, and amp are all still undisturbed.

Here it is mocked up. We wanted it to be all one piece so it would be easier to remove when the battery dies, or if we need to take it out for any other reason. So we had our friend Mark weld it together for us.

Here it is welded up. Looks pretty stealth. It's a shame you pretty much will never see it once everything is finished.

Trav mounting the compressors to measure the air lines from the compressor to the T fitting that Accuair supplies. The compressors come with a pretty long air line, so we'll get it shortened so it looks good.

Here it is in the trunk mocked up.
