i have a really loud sound coming from a rebuilt engine.
suspecting it is the turbo.

wondering how to diagnose it
and if it is common fault
and also if a mk4 1.8t will work

What's the noise like? All the time or only when boosting? Could be a boost leak somewhere too.

1.8t turbos won't work, completely different.

Is it a high price scream? I would suspect the exhaust manifold is leaking.
