Just bought some new summer shoes for the Scirocco.
Porsche Phonedials, 16x7 all around, ET 52.

So, what I need help with is spacing and tire size.

Problem 1;

Two wheels had 205/60/16's on them previously.
Just by putting the wheel underneath the arches, it was way too big with that size rubber.
So, Low Profile options are being looked at.
I'm asking any gurus out there for your expertise, what size tires should I run?
I hear stretching is an option for good fitment after lowering, but I'd only do it if necessary...

Problem 2;
Fitment.
Wondering what my best options for spacing the wheels out are.
I know that adapters come as spacers, but I'm told it would probably be 25mm front, 30mm rear.
I'm also told it would be best to lower the car first, and then play with wheels. Sadly, I'm working backwards.

Let me know. Help a VW virgin out.
Many thanks in advance!

Would a 205/40R16 work for you? I believe it's very minimal to no stretching at all. With that size, there should be a bit of selection for ya.

16s on a mk1 are basically as big as you'd aesthetically want to go, without making big changes to the suspension and underbody. so you should be looking at getting the lowest profile tires you can find. 205 40's are about as big as i'd go. on a 7" rim and a mk1, i'd want a 30 series tire if I could find it

here's the fitment of 205 40's on a mk2. they have a similar wheel well shape to an S2 scirocco.

and yeah. lower it first, then get wheels
if you can lower it and mount the wheel without spacers on the hub with 1 bolt, then put a bit of sprung weight back on the wheel, use a measuring tape or ruler to measure the space from the front of the wheel to the inner fender edge. that's your maximum space allowable.
Wake up. Stand up. Please look at this picture. Look at this picture please.

Also.... 16" on a mk1/mk2/scirocco you should use small tires like 165-45-16  :hi:

i've been thinking about parting my scirocco project and have a new set of raceland coil you could have cheap if you need suspension

I have 195/40/16's on my 16x7 RS's. They're enough tire to keep traction where it needs to be without being bulky.

16s on a mk1 are borderline too big. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE get 165 tires, they're for hipsters with stretched ears and completely RUIN the car. Back when I was young and stupid I ran 165/50r15s on my mk1 with racelands, and my tires simply ruined the handling characteristics of the car. Not to mention the ride was unbearable, I could feel the dirt in the right lane on the highway.

195/40s would look better, 205/40s will perform better and I think they're cheaper. 195s are plenty for 200hp

For fitment, unless you want to completely dump it, ET25-30 front and ET15-25 rear looks perfect. Buy a nice cup kit over chinese made coils, your back, passengers, and wallet 5 years from now will thank me.

:lol:

I've always wondered about anyone with rubber band tires putting down any real power.

I agree, however, it depends how low you want to take it. If you can view my tiny profile picture, that's a 195/40 on a 16x7.

You also have a mk2, so you've got a ton more space in the wells. MK2s with camber you can fit 15x8 Et10/ ET0  MK1s I'd say your limit is 15x7 ET20 front 15x8 ET15 rear. -1 front -2 rear.

Here was my Gli on 15x7 ET28 with 165/50 tires. I had room for 195/45s, barely. Could have used a 10mm spacer in the rear.
