Bought not built, build!
« on: Jan 11, 15, 16:32 »
As some are aware me and my A4 have had a love and mostly hate relationship this past year. Started off with my APR HPFP seizing mid stroke and causing a good amount of damage to various parts in the head. This was back in march. Since then I've have various air ride issues etc. After dislocating my patella I drove to work for the first time in a manual and didn't make it home without the brutal noise that is an FSI HPFP saying fuck you as it grinds itself against your cam shaft.

I imagined it looked much like this

and did this

if you can't see this photo let me know I will repost it.

For those that don't know that is the cam follower wedge up against the pump. Needless to same I'm super impressed. I've come to one of three conclusions. Either the Autotech HPFP upgrade is faulty or I have debris that wasn't found and was clogging the pickup and created low oil pressure but not low enough to create a code in the ECU OR I spun a bearing and same thing lower oil pressure but not enough to create a code. Car needed a turbo anyways as the wastegate actuator was leaking.

NEVER the less I'm now stuck here with a gorgeous A4 paper weight!

I've purchased a new to me motor and she is on her way to me as we speak. I imagine I will have her next week. I'm also in talks with 034 on a new upper control arm they have developed specifically for bagged VW/Audi's.

The goal is to have her sitting pretty at Spring unSprung in April. Shouldn't be much of an issue to do so but we will see.

Progress is now happening after a month of talks with the new to me motor's owner and i'm semi able to do some of the work.

with some great help from my son

I'm starting to rip parts out of here. Some of which will be for sale shortly including a FMI and the Carbinrio (SP) intake.

Did find this in my A/C condenser.

in case you're wondering what a dislocated patella looks like

I don't recommend doing this to yourself.

Playing hockey on November 25. I was checking a guy and my skate blade did a quick motion to the side. I assume I got it in where the ice meets the boards. Either way hands down the most i have ever been in.

My new to me motor was ready to ship on Friday. Hopefully the truck picked it up so I can have it early next week. If not I should see it by the end of the week.

Ordered some new guages for the car including oil pressure  :twak: from Podi.ca  they really do have the best match for a Audi B7.

Been sick the last couple days so I've made zero progress. Hopefully Sunday I'm up for getting the motor 80% (aka just gotta borrow and engine hoist) during the football game.

Finally feeling good enough to go get some work done outside

New motor has the potential to arrive at the work tomorrow  :yippie: provided customs aren't dicks with it tonight. Since I do have technically all the time in the world i started pulling parts off the motor some of which I will still need and some I'm going to sell etc.

After about an hour I went from this

to this

In this process discovered that the thermostat I just put in last year wasn't torqued properly and was missing a bolt and some how magically by all the holy gods that hate me some how not leaking.
Seriously should have been pink shit everywhere.

On a plus the motor wasn't nearly as carbon'd up as I thought it might be.

The rack is probably thankful I'm in there right now as that was some ugly fluid. I really didn't grasp how dirty it was from the dipstick. I read somewhere it's suppose to be green or clear..........

Overall pretty good evening at her. Only broke the a crazy brittle hood release cable which was probably a blessing in disguise as knowing my luck it would have broke the car would have been broken down.

Looking good mate! When you need to replenish those fluids, give me a shout ;)

On another note - garage is getting ripped apart and the new wall put up tomorrow. Game on!

Looking forward to seeing the new engine!
