B6 2WD vs Quattro automatic
« on: Jan 14, 16, 16:41 »
I've been looking for a manual B6 avant for a while...there aren't any for sale at the moment. As a plan B, I'm starting to consider an auto...I just want to commute with the car so it's not the end of the world. The main thing putting me off the auto is the terrible reputation of the CVT. With B6's getting older, it's harder to find them with good service histories and that's not great with the CVT issues.

I know the quattro equipped cars have a different transmission than the 2wd cars. My research leads me to believe that their reliability is better. That said, I can't really find much about what's different between the 2wd and quattro transmissions. Does anyone have any experience with these? Can anyone speak to their reliability? Any input would be great...thanks!

Those CVTs are garbage. I can't keep them in stock, and they are expensive.

Stay away from B6 Fronttrack CVTs.

The Auto Quattro is a ZF Transmission. It's a normal transmission and they're tough. B6 and B7 trannies are different but the car i just sold we never had a single issue with the transmission on it.

Cool...that seems to be the consensus about those particular ZFs.

Someone  can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure it's the same transmission bolted to the V8 in the b7 which is why the lag.  Could be wrong but this is what I've heard.

Just hold out for a manual quattro. They come up every now and again.

There is one for sale right now a co-worker was looking at.

And Damn http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/rds/cto/5417632751.html

So what ^ said.  Nevermind I see you want an Avant, and I can't read.  I was surprised how many manuals there were for sale though.

We're actually selling our beloved lil' Avant!  Would be great to find another enthusiast to baby her after us.   It could serve as a clean platform with no real performance mods done yet (please see my post below for details).  I've babied her!  It's a "rare" combo of a Quattro Avant with sport pkg (suspension, steering wheel), painted lowers, tinted windows, in as good as a condition as ours:
